Owner’s Roadmap™
Definition
The Owner’s Roadmap™ is a diagnostic tool that maps the owner’s current position across all nine modules of the iBD Ownership OS™. It answers the question: “Where am I strong, where am I weak, and what should I focus on next?”
The roadmap uses the Velocity Score™ — a composite score derived from the owner’s self-assessment across the 27 milestones — to identify which module represents the biggest constraint on value creation. That constraint becomes the focus of the next 90-Day Game Plan™.
Why This Matters for Owners
Owners don’t lack ambition or work ethic. They lack a map. Most are working on too many things at once, or working on the wrong thing entirely — optimizing revenue when the real constraint is leadership, or chasing new clients when the real problem is margin erosion.
The Owner’s Roadmap replaces guesswork with diagnosis. It shows the owner exactly where the bottleneck is, which means they can apply focused effort to the single constraint that will have the biggest impact on enterprise value and personal optionality.
How It Works
The roadmap assessment evaluates each of the nine modules on a scale that feeds into the Velocity Score™. The assessment covers ownership goals clarity, valuation knowledge, governance cadence, financial infrastructure, revenue quality, margin structure, leadership bench, incentive alignment, and operator transition readiness.
The output is a visual map showing which modules are installed, which are partially built, and which are missing entirely. The module with the lowest score and highest leverage becomes the one thing — the focus of the next quarter’s work.
The roadmap is updated at every quarterly boardroom meeting. Over time, the owner watches their Velocity Score rise as each constraint is systematically resolved.
