iBD Alignment Score™

Definition

The iBD Alignment Score™ is a self-assessment that measures one thing: how clear is your path? It asks the owner to rate their visibility across three dimensions on a scale of 1 (no visibility) to 7 (very clear):

  • Time clarity - Do you have a clear plan for how your role evolves and how you buy your time back?
  • Cash flow clarity - Do you know when and how your income shifts from operator salary to ownership distributions?
  • Wealth clarity - Do you know what your business is worth today and have a line of sight to your target valuation?

The Alignment Score is not about current results. It’s about visibility. An owner might have a low score today and still be in a strong position — the score tells them whether they can see the path, not whether they’ve arrived.

Why It Matters

The Alignment Score is the simplest diagnostic in the iBD Ownership OS™. It connects directly to the three forces of the The Owner-Operator Trap™: gut-based decisions (no time clarity), unpredictable cash flow (no cash flow clarity), and being stuck in operations (no wealth clarity showing why it’s worth extracting yourself).

The goal of the entire OS is to move the owner’s Alignment Score from ones and twos toward sixes and sevens — not by completing all the work, but by creating line of sight across all three constraints.

Where This Concept Appears

  • Lesson 4 - Introduced as a self-assessment at the end of the OS overview
  • Phase 1 (Plan) - The primary outcome of Phase 1 is moving the Alignment Score to high visibility
  • Quarterly Boardroom Meeting - The Alignment Score is revisited quarterly to track progress
